Contemporary calf, gilt-edged raised bands and lettering piece to spine, joints mended. Light rubbing and a few minor scuffs to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, small chip to foot of spine, corners bumped and somewhat worn, front hinge cracked, rear hinge starting. Moderate toning to text, (very) faint dampstaining to margins of a few leaves. "3/6" in small early hand to front free endpaper, early owner signature and tiny inkspot to title page. $200. * Sixth and final edition. Around 1703, Spottiswood established Spottiswood's College of Law to compensate for the lack of a legal curriculum at The University of Edinburgh. Its main textbook was Sir George McKenzie's Institutes. Spottiswood wrote the Stile of Writs, along with another book, The Form of Process, to cover areas that are not treated in detail by Mackenzie.
