An Introduction to Marine Engineering, for Cadets and Deck Officers - Second Edition
This project is aimed at those with no prior knowledge: None at all. Aiming for ‘simple is best’ and the KISS principle (‘keep it simple stupid’) means that everything in this book is ‘simplified for clarity’. The diagrams will not be over-dense blueprints and, wherever I make a grand sweeping statement, I will completely omit to mention any exceptions to the rule. I’ll do my best not to use big words, abbreviations, or use any numbers.
Why a second edition?
Despite shipping being a highly conservative industry, change has been and is coming. What was once slow and steady is drifting into a modern and responsible culture. Environmental concerns are propelling this turn. As such, I have expanded the environmental content and added a top-down view of some regulations.
