About the Author
Steve Chapman is an Associate Professor in the College of Management, N. C. State University. He holds undergraduate and MBA degrees from The University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Operations and Strategic Management from Michigan State University. In addition to his current academic position, he has served on the faculties of Eastern Michigan University, The University of Iowa, Duke University, and The University of North Carolina at both Greensboro and Chapel Hill.
Prior to his academic career, Steve held several positions in industry. He has significant industrial experience, with positions including inventory analyst, inventory control supervisor, manager of manufacturing systems, production control manager, and materials manager. He also was a senior system consultant with one of the big eight accounting and consulting firms. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Steve has published several articles in professional journals during the last several years, and is co-author of the booksIntroduction to Materials Management and Introduction to Materials Management Casebook. He is also the sole author of the bookFundamentals of Production Planning and Control.
He is also certified at the fellow level in production and inventory management (CFPIM) by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). He also serves on the certification council for APICS, and chaired the development of the new certification module called Basics of Supply Chain Management and currently chairs the certification committee for the module Strategic Management of Resources.
Steve has been actively involved in consulting his entire academic career, including several long-term consulting engagements with numerous companies, including small and large companies as well as both service and manufacturing industries.
Lloyd M Clive P.Eng, CFPIM, is a professional Engineer (Industrial) and Certified by APICS at the fellow level, with work experience at Johnson and Johnson, 3M and CP Rail. He currently serves as the Coordinator Materials Management and Distribution at Fleming College with over 20 years of teaching experience, specializing in the area of Production and Inventory Management. He has authored a number of courses in the field and is co-author of the CPIM course Basics of Supply Chain Management.
