Octavo with off-white wraps and red text; xxix, 851 pages; illustrations; 23 cm. Julia Wells Bower was professor emeritus of Mathematics at Connecticut College and author of Mathematics, a Creative Art."It is generally conceded that a liberal education should include an introduction to the mode of thought and precision of language of mathematics. For students not majoring in the physical sciences, this introduction can be made through experience in working creatively with simple mathematical concepts.[.] The course for which this text has been written was designed to show mathematics not as a tool or technique, but as a creative form of abstract thinking. It was given at the Connecticut College for the first time in 1954." --Preface. Ex-library with sticker to spine; sunning to spine and very light soiling to wraps; pages unmarked and binding sound; a very good (+) to near fine copy.
