Introduction to Nitrox is for recreational divers to learn about mixed gas diving. This book was created exclusively for Hyperbarics International, Inc. It is written by Dick Rutkowski, President & CEO of Hyperbarics International, Inc. headquartered in Key Largo, Florida.
Mr. Rutkowski's career began with the US Navy in the 1950s. He is also an emeritus member of the Explorers Club and has a glacier in Antarctica named after him. He has trained government agencies, fire, police, and rescue personnel worldwide in mixed gas diving. At NOAA, he helped establish the first hyperbaric chamber on Virginia Key in Miami. He has consulted with the Diving Safety Board and the NASA Neutral Buoyancy Lab at the Johnson Space Center. He is the Founder of the International Association of Nitrox Divers, the International Board of Undersea Medicine, Undersea Breathing Systems, Undersea Research Foundation, the Alliance for Marine Ecology and Conservation (Costa Rica), and the Association of Marine Ecology and Conservation (Florida). He has also organized and co-founded diving safety organizations such as the Florida Underwater Council and the Society of Diving Safety (SUDS). Known as the foremost authority on mixed gas diving for commercial and recreational divers, he was inducted into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame, ADCI Commercial Diving Hall of Fame, and was awarded the PADI Lifetime Achievement Award.
