An Introduction to Social Ethics, the Social Conscience in a Democracy (Classic Reprint)

A clear, thoughtful guide to democracy and moral life in a modern society.

This book explains why democracy is more than just voting; it’s a way to organize the shared beliefs that guide everyday life.

The author surveys the social conscience, institutions, and the moral questions that arise when people live together under democratic rule. It blends history, theory, and practical insight to show how ideas about equality, freedom, and responsibility shape our laws, schools, families, and communities.

• See how the social conscience helps or hinders reform and how institutions educate and align public thought.
• Explore the tension between equality and inequality and why both matter in a healthy democracy.
• Understand the role of family, education, church, and work in forming civic character.
• Learn how citizens, policymakers, and leaders can foster a more thoughtful, just society.

Ideal for readers of political philosophy, social history, and policy studies who want a grounded, accessible view of democracy in everyday life.
