Synopsis:
An Introduction to Statistics is the ideal text for incorporating an active learning approach to the subject of introductory statistics. Authors Kieth A. Carlson and Jennifer R. Winquist carefully explain fundamental statistical concepts in short, easy-to-understand chapters, then use empirically developed workbook activities to both reinforce and expand on these fundamental concepts. These activities are self-correcting so students discover and correct their own misunderstandings early in the learning process. This approach enables students to be responsible for their own learning by helping them to "read with purpose. About the Author:
Kieth A. Carlson received his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology with an emphasis in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Nebraska in 1996. He is currently Associate Professor of Psychology at Valparaiso University. He has published research on visual attention, memory, student cynicism toward college, and active learning. He enjoys teaching a wide range of courses including statistics, research methods, sensation and perception, cognitive psychology, learning psychology, the philosophy of science, and the history of psychology. Dr. Carlson was twice honored with the Teaching Excellence Award from the United States Air Force Academy.
