An Introduction to the Study of Some Living Religions of the East (Classic Reprint)

A clear, accessible introduction to living religions of the East.

This study explains Hinduism as a dynamic, evolving set of beliefs and practices, not a fixed creed.

Drawing on the author’s firsthand experience with Hindus and exposure to Islam and Buddhism, the book emphasizes sympathy and understanding. It presents essential ideas like karma, the quest for enlightenment, and devotion as paths to spiritual fulfillment. Readers are guided through the Rigveda, Brahmanas, and Upanishads, and then to later developments and modern movements that shape belief today. The aim is to help beginners appreciate the noble elements of non‑Christian religions while considering how East and West influence one another.

• Discover how Hinduism grows from early hymns to deeper philosophical texts.
• Understand the ideas of karma, knowledge, and devotion as routes to redemption.
• Explore how living religions are practiced in the modern world, not just studied as history.
• Learn how Eastern religions relate to Western thought and interfaith dialogue.

Ideal for readers curious about Hinduism, Buddhism, and other Eastern traditions, as well as students beginning theological study or interfaith exploration.
