He’s managed to craft an adventure that furthers an ongoing story line and use long-standing Iron Man continuity in a satisfying way while he also captures the character’s cinematic tone well enough to appeal to a readership coming from that direction, while also providing enough snappy dialogue, suspense, ingenious sci-fi concepts, and large-scale action to please newcomers (who will be grateful for the recap at the beginning of the book). To top it off, his story resonates with Iron Man’s origins, as Tony Stark is captured by his archenemy, the Mandarin (villain of this summer’s Iron Man 3) and is forced to craft weapons for the villain’s use. Utilizing his true superpower, his unbridled genius, Tony manages to make former enemies into allies and turn the tables on his captor. Larroca provides high-tech weaponry as sleek as a new Ferrari and crashes it all together in fast-paced battles.
