Iranian Intelligence

Behind every crackdown, every covert operation abroad, and every proxy conflict in the Middle East stands a machinery of secrecy built to outlast the state’s recurring crises. This is the story of how the Islamic Republic of Iran learned to watch, recruit, influence, and strike.

Inside this book:

The rival services that operate in the shadows. How the Ministry of Intelligence and the Revolutionary Guard divide responsibilities, compete for authority, and sometimes obstruct one another while protecting the regime.

Silencing enemies at home and abroad. From the chain murders of dissident writers inside Iran to the surveillance, intimidation, abduction, and targeting of exiles on foreign soil, examined through court records, indictments, and government findings.

The reach across the region. The Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, Hezbollah, and the armed groups of Iraq, and how relationships with regional partners became instruments of influence and statecraft.

The shadow war and the cyber turn. Stuxnet, sabotage, espionage, and the long covert struggle with Israel, a conflict conducted through human networks, compromised systems, and code as much as through operations in the field.

The tradecraft and the people. The recruitment, surveillance, internal discipline, and institutional rivalries that hold the system together, and the counterintelligence reckoning that arrived in 2025.

Drawing on indictments, sanctions designations, court records, official findings, and investigative reporting, Iranian Intelligence is a clear-eyed account of a security state that treats intelligence as the continuation of politics by other means.

It is the opening volume of the Shadow Services series.
