Forty centuries of Ireland gathered in a living record of people, places and story. Ireland lives in these pages. In Volume III of Thomas W. H. Fitzgeralds monumental Ireland and Her People, ancient and modern Ireland unfolds through vivid lives and memorable events, uniting Celtic legends and traditions with carefully assembled history. From the dawn of Celtic Ireland to the political and cultural struggles of more recent centuries, this Irish biography collection reveals how saints, scholars, warriors and statesmen shaped a distinct civilisation at the Atlantic edge of Europe. Conceived as a library of Irish biography, it remains an ambitious attempt to gather a nations memory between covers. At once Irish history and biography, Irish mythology reference book and Irish history encyclopedia, the volume moves between heroic sagas, ecclesiastical annals, political narrative and social detail. A dictionary of proper names in Irish mythology, geography and genealogy anchors Celtic mythology and folklore in landscapes and lineages, aiding Irish family history research and the study of Irish genealogy and clans. For general readers seeking an accessible ancient Ireland historical overview and students needing a trusted reference for Irish studies or Celtic Ireland cultural history, it offers narrative and factual depth. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for future generations. More than a reprint - a collectors item and a cultural treasure, Volume III of Ireland and Her People speaks to anyone who cherishes Irelands past, from the casual enthusiast to the dedicated historian and classic-literature collector.
