The Ironstone Quarries of the Midlands: The Kettering Area (Pt. 5) [Part V only]

Volume 5 in this series focuses on the ironstone quarries in the Kettering area and the railways that served them, the machines used in them, and what can still be seen. Provides a detailed description of each of the quarries in the Kettering area, both large and small, and how the iron stone was extracted as the quarries grew. The coming of the railways permitted the exploitation of the rich iron ore deposits in the area, leading to the eventual construction of the iron works and then the steel works. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos and specially drawn maps. 256 pages with index.
