Isaac Asimov Typed Letter Signed November 19, 1977 Typed Letter signed by Isaac Asimov to Dr. Robert Harper on postcard stock, dated November 19, 1977, in which he expresses a fascination for "the Sagan Fantasy" and "hyperspace". Boldly signed in blue ink by Asimov "Isaac Asimov". His letter is in response to a letter from Robert Harper written to Asimov only a week earlier where he was asked if he was joining Sagan in idiotic thinking that any kind of shield could be constructed for human beings to pop into black holes and out white holes. In his letter, Harper refers to Asimov's book "The Collapsing Universe, The Story of Black Holes". This listing is for the set of Asimov's signed letter on postcard stock, a carbon of Harper's original letter to Asimov, and Harper's copy of "The Collapsing Universe". Both the carbon and Asimov's letter were originally neatly tucked into the book. The postcard is 5.5" x 3.25", postmarked November 20, 1977, and has expected softened creases from mailing. The carbon letter has a center fold. The book is in good condition, is a 5th printing with a lightly tattered dust jacket. The postcard letter from Asimov reads: "November 19, 1977 Dear Dr. Harper The Sagan fantasy may be fantasy, but it is so close to the science fictional concept of "hyperspace' which I've used in my novels for decades that i just can't resist. I haven't abandoned either biology or science fiction, but I must admit I like astronomy and mysteries better. Isaac Asimov" The carbon letter original sent to Asimov is dated November 11, 1977 and shown in part below, it reads: "Dear Mr. Asimov . Anyhow, my question is this: aren't you joining Sagan in being idiotic in thinking that any kind of shield could be constructed for human beings to pop into black holes and out white holes? For several pages prior to your paying obeisance to the Sagan fantasy, you make an overwhelmingly convincing case in "The Collapsing Universe" for black holes gorging themselves on all forms of matter and energy that get anywhere near them. So how could there be a shield ." The letters are accompanied by the original book in which they were neatly placed. .
