He is credited with more than 125 technical articles on irrigation, water measurement, and water management. He serves on several technical committees within The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), The United States Com¬mittee on Irrigation and Drainage (USCID), and The Irrigation Association (IA), and has served as a consultant and expert for numerous government agencies and water districts.
He is the recipient of many awards, including the Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award (ASABE) in 1992, the Hydraulic Structures Medal (ASCE) in 1995, the Royce J. Tipton Award (ASCE) in 1999, the Merriam Improved Irrigation Award (USCID) in 2002, the Hunter Rouse Hydraulic Engineering Award (ASCE) in 2004, and the 2005 Person of the Year Award (IA).
