The Isco Open Channel Flow Measurement Handbook is a valuable resource for those involved with flow measurement applications. It provides information on open channel flow measurement technologies and methods, including selection and installation guidelines. The Foreword was written by John Replogle, who has spent over forty years with the U.S. Water Conservation Laboratory, Agricultural Research Service, USDA, conducting research on water measurement and water management for irrigated agriculture. He officially retired in 2004, but serves as a Collaborator and Advisor to the Laboratory.

He has degrees in both Civil and Agricultural Engineering, and is considered one of the world’s foremost experts in water measurement, particularly in agricultural applications. He is credited with more than 125 technical articles on irrigation, water measurement, and water management. He serves on several technical committees within The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), The United States Com¬mittee on Irrigation and Drainage (USCID), and The Irrigation Association (IA), and has served as a consultant and expert for numerous government agencies and water districts.

He is the recipient of many awards, including the Hancor Soil and Water Engineering Award (ASABE) in 1992, the Hydraulic Structures Medal (ASCE) in 1995, the Royce J. Tipton Award (ASCE) in 1999, the Merriam Improved Irrigation Award (USCID) in 2002, the Hunter Rouse Hydraulic Engineering Award (ASCE) in 2004, and the 2005 Person of the Year Award (IA).
