Home of influential Humanists, it has witnessed the recovery of many Classics and their philological treatment by means of various kinds of emendatio. More recently, the social and cultural implications of textual transmission have been put in greater relief from several viewpoints, by means of a closer attention to the historical materiality of literary artifacts, both manuscript and in print (the latter s study was prompted in the 1980s by stronger connections with the Anglo-American world.
