How do we begin to understand Jacob’s wrestling encounter with God?

This encounter speaks to the profound battle over the intimate connection of God and humanity. It demonstrates God’s commitment to us and illuminates where we can find ourselves when God’s promises have been left to simmer on the backburner of our hearts and souls as we face life’s challenges.

Jacob had a word from God which created a dream within him. He risked his reputation, relationships, and life for the divine inheritance. And one night, he had a face-to-face encounter with God, where he asked for his blessing. We’re as desperate as Jacob, but do we realize it?

We, too, have a word from God and are called to God’s face. Through Jesus we receive the Firstborn’s inheritance from a loving Father whose pursuit is unrelenting. The Father would have us prevail and live in the fullness of the birthright and blessing His Son willingly gave his life for us to inherit.

Jacob’s HIP: The Blessing of Transformation offers a journey into God’s heart for his sons and daughters and their glorious identity and purpose in him, told through the story of Jacob—a so-called usurping impostor who became Israel, a prince with God and man.
