Jake The Firedrake

From the best-selling author of I’m Just a Kid comes a powerful story for children whose frustration and overwhelming feelings sometimes become too big to hold.

Jake’s day begins normally, until teasing and frustration make his emotions heat up fast. Soon, he transforms into a fire-breathing firedrake, overwhelmed by feelings he doesn’t yet know how to navigate.

With support from his caring teacher, Ms. Hart, and the steady comfort of his friends, Jake begins to understand what is happening inside his body and practices strategies that help him cool down, feel safe, and reconnect.

This rhythmic, engaging, and neurodiversity-affirming story supports conversations about:

• Big feelings, anger, and frustration
• Emotional regulation and sensory overwhelm
• Supportive adults and co-regulation
• Empathy, kindness, teasing, and friendship

Perfect for parents, teachers, therapists, and school counselors, Jake the Firedrake is an uplifting fantasy story that helps children feel understood, not judged.

Ideal for classroom read-alouds, home libraries, counseling sessions, and social-emotional learning lessons.
