About this Item
B&W Illustrations; This is a small format book (approx. 5"x 4") with limp cloth binding. The book is in Very Good- condition and is lacking the dust jacket. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some bumping, rubbing and wear to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. There is a thin scrape to the top front spine joint , and there are two spots of white discoloration to the top rear end of the book covers. The text pages are clean and bright. The map at the rear of the book is in clean, bright un-torn condition. "The Dutch East Indies was formed from the nationalised trading posts of the Dutch East India Company, which came under the administration of the Dutch government in 1800. During the 19th century, the Dutch fought many wars against indigenous rulers and peoples, which caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. Dutch rule reached its greatest territorial extent in the early 20th century with the occupation of Western New Guinea. The Dutch East Indies was one of the most valuable colonies under European rule, though its profits depended on exploitative labor. The colony contributed to Dutch global prominence in spice and cash crop trade in the 19th century, and coal and oil exploration in the 20th century. The colonial social order was rigidly racial with the Dutch elite living separately from but linked to their native subjects" (from Wikipedia). Seller Inventory # A48918
