Oval bust-length portrait of Jean Chapelain (1595-1674), a French poet and critic during the Grand Si�cle, best known for his role as an organizer and founding member of the Acad�mie fran�aise. Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 265 x 185 mm. Enrgaved by Robert Nanteuil after his won design, published 1655. In very good condition, but cropped within platemark.
