Fiction. Children's Literature. Illustrated by Andrea Torrey Balsara. JELLYBEAN MOUSE is the second tale in the exciting picture book series, "Happy the Pocket Mouse." When a boring trip to the laundromat frustrates Happy's insatiable appetite for adventure, Happy arrives at the laundromat in a funk, only to come face-to-face with his first jellybean machine. Thrilled with the discovery, Happy is confounded for a second time when John explains that he has only enough quarters for the wash. Refusing to give up, Happy makes a careful reconnaissance beneath the washing machines until he finds a quarter of his own. But the stingy machine conspires against the treasure-seeking mouse, steals his quarter, and refuses to release its jellybeans. Unwilling to accept defeat, Happy convinces John to tilt the machine until its sweet treasure spills out in abundance. No adventure is too small for a mouse with a prodigious appetite.

About the Author
Philip Roy lives in Ontario with his family. Whenever possible, he visits the places he writes about in the SUBMARINE OUTLAW series. From 1999 to 2001, he lived on the island of Saipan, which features in GHOSTS OF THE PACIFIC. Recently, he travelled to India to research the fifth book in the series, OUTLAW IN INDIA, and to South Africa for book six, SEAS OF SOUTH AFRICA. Book seven, ECO WARRIOR, is set in Australia, which he has also recently visited. The eighth book in the SUBMARINE OUTLAW series, STEALTH OF THE NINJA, will be set in Japan, and is due out in the fall of 2016. Travelling makes for great adventure, Philip contends. The only thing better is writing about it and visiting schools to share the stories and research with young readers. Along with the SUBMARINE OUTLAW series, Philip is also the author of two children's/YA historical novels, Blood Brothers in Louisbourg and Me & Mr. Bell. He has also recently published MOUSE TALES, JELLYBEAN MOUSE, and MOUSE PET, his first three children's picture books in the HAPPY THE POCKET MOUSE series. The fourth book in the HAPPY THE POCKET MOUSE series will be published in the fall of 2016.
