Add to basket1972 signed first edition, The Lyrebird Press (London), 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches tall hardcover in publisher's card slipcase, yellow paper-covered boards over brown buckram cloth spine, gilt design and lettering to spine, green endpapers, color litho frontispiece by John Piper, illustrated with two full page and seven in-text monochrome lithographs, 31, [9] pp. A paperback trade edition of this book was produced in smaller format, and that edition does not have the full color lithograph frontispiece by Piper. This large published edition was 100 numbered copies signed by the author and artist. This is one of 20 out of series copies unnumbered and and unsigned, but bearing a presentation inscription on the colophon page from the publisher, Tambimuttu, to Jack Lambert: 'For Jack with love from Tambi.' Very slight staining to top margin of front cover. Bookseller's light pencil notation to the half title page, regarding the publisher's signature on the colophon page. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - in a card slipcase which has a one-inch tear to the top edge, but which is otherwise very good. Note that this is a heavy and oversized book, so additional postage will be required for international or priority orders. ~SP38~ [2.5P] 'Dramatic poem' presented first as a masque in Dorchester Abbey near Oxford, in 1970, by British poet and Faber and Faber editor Anne Barbara Ridler (1912-2001). Her Collected Poems (Carcanet Press) were published in 1994. She turned to libretto work and verse plays, and it was later in life that she earned official recognition, receiving an OBE in 2001. Artist John Piper (1903-1992) was an English painter, printmaker and designer of stained-glass windows and both opera and theatre sets. Meary James Thurairajah Tambimuttu (1915-1983) was a Tamil poet, editor, critic and publisher, who for many years played a significant part on the literary scenes of London and New York City. Tambimuttu created two publishing houses, Editions Poetry London (established in 1943) and Lyrebird Press (1968), both of which published major works.
