See photos for condition details. Hardcover, beveled red cloth boards show spotting and scuffing along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding overall good but there are some issues: the front hinge is starting to crack and the rear hinge is fully cracked at the board. Most of the text pages are still tight though there is some pulling in spots. There is no publication date (ca 1871) but there is a Christmas 1872 gift inscription on the third front end page. There is also a tear on the title page that measures about 1 inch and is located just to the right of "The Discipline of Life" in the title. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is still present and in good shape. No other handwriting noted, no bookplates, no library markings etc. Foxing spots are present throughout with some pages being quite freckled.
