Jesus Can't Fix Racism: The Fix We Fake, The Work We Fear, and The Truth That Sets Us Free

Racism has survived in the Church not because Christians failed to pray, but because they refuse to change

For decades, Christians have treated racism as a problem that can be prayed away. If we just preach the gospel, if we just love Jesus, if we just wait long enough, healing will come. But history, Scripture, and lived experience tell a far more demanding truth. Healing without responsibility does not lead to restoration. Prayer without obedience does not produce change.

In Jesus Can’t Fix Racism The Fix We Fake, the Work We Fear, and the Truth That Sets Us Free , Timothy McCain calls believers to examine not only what they believe, but what they are willing to confront. Drawing from Scripture, American church history, theology, and his own journey as a Black man navigating white evangelical spaces, McCain exposes how racism has survived not only through hatred, but through avoidance, silence, and spiritual shortcuts disguised as faith.

The church knows how to get people to the hospital.
We acknowledge harm, pray for healing, and celebrate moments of relief.
But restoration requires rehab, and rehab demands sustained, honest work long after the crisis is over.

Jesus Can’t Fix Racism refuses the idea that unity can exist without truth or that discipleship can exist without cost. It confronts shallow theology, colorblind language, and spiritualized silence that protect comfort while postponing obedience. It challenges readers to move beyond faith that feels sincere but demands little, and into faith that actually follows Jesus.

Jesus has already given the blueprint.
The church carries the toolbelt.

Racism will not be fixed by waiting.
It will not be fixed by silence.
And it will not be fixed by asking God to do what He has already commanded His people to do.

Jesus can’t fix racism….
