Jesus and the Outsiders

Who is Jesus? Jared Neusch and Connor Shram, two authors who love Jesus, want kids to meet the real Messiah.

Jesus is the core to understanding our faith in a deep and personal way. Introducing kids to Jesus at a young age can help them build a lifelong, unshakeable trust in him. An entertaining read-aloud for parents and children’s ministry leaders to share with little ones, Jesus and the Outsiders is about how sometimes we feel left out and lonely. Sometimes we exclude others because we’re afraid or unsure. How did Jesus treat the Outsiders?

• Did he make a club only some people can join?
• Or did he invite everyone to his table?

We find the answer in the words and actions of Jesus. This book tells three biblical stories of Jesus and an outsider who was looking for belonging: the Samaritan woman at the well, Zacchaeus, and the repentant thief on the cross. The humorous text and delightful illustrations lead children to discover that like Jesus, we can be inclusive of people different than us. We can appreciate the diversity of people God created in his image. And we can give others the universal love and acceptance that Jesus gave us.

Connor Shram is an author and speaker from Saskatchewan Canada. He has over a decade of experience teaching the Bible to children and their parents in both the pulpit and the classroom. He's written screenplays, children's stories, and fiction short stories in multiple genres. He wrote a middle school curriculum on Biblical history and was one of the contributors to the forthcoming Bethel Study Bible (with Thomas Nelson).

Jared Neusch is a PhD candidate at King's College, London, with a focus on Biblical Studies in the New Testament. He has taught and led in various capacities in children, youth, and adult ministries in a local church setting for almost a decade. He has written a handful of popular-level articles, and collaborated on a number of writing projects, including his contribution to the forthcoming Bethel Study Bible (with Thomas Nelson).
