The contents show a typical amount of tanning and a few scattered marks, but the main body of text is in decent shape for the presumed age of the publication, which is sometime after Joe Grimaldi's death in 1837 and potentially pre-1850. Tears to the cover edges but these rarely touch upon the text. This booklet contains the condensed memoirs of Joe Grimaldi, who was the most popular English entertainer of the Recency era and one of the most influential clowns in history, edited by Charles Dickens and Edgerton Wilks. The inner covers contain a selection of eclectic 1800s advertisements, which remain largely intact. Despite it's well-worn and handled edges, this copy is impressively kept for it's expected age of at least 150 years. Grimaldi is said to be the creator of the iconic clown makeup still used today and his legacy remains strong, with clowns from all over the world visiting a yearly memorial in London to the present day.
