About the Author
With sixteen years of competitive swimming experience and international accolades as a Professional Triathlete, Joe Zemaitis at age 27 brings a lifetime of experience in competitive sports to his work in coaching and teaching. Joe's coaching philosophy is rooted in the firm belief that every child has a genius -- a natural talent that, when recognized and unlocked, paves the pathway to a lifetime of success. Knowing the vast array of critical life skills and lessons learned through sports participation, Joe is a strong proponent of the myriad benefits for every child. Joe has nine years of coaching experience with swimmers of various ability levels and has built teams of young swimmers who consistently qualify for state, regional, and national competitions. In 2006, he coached and mentored a determined seven-year-old named Braxton Bilbrey who challenged the treacherous waters of the San Francisco Bay to become the youngest swimmer ever to make the 1.4-mile swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco. In that same year, Joe launched Swim Neptune, a year-round competitive USA Swimming Club that has grown to include five locations across the Phoenix metro area and continues to nurture young swimmers in pursuit of their competitive goals. In support of childhood drowning prevention and water safety initiatives, Joe created F.A.S.T. -- The Foundation for Aquatic Safety and Training. A non-profit organization, based in Phoenix, Arizona, F.A.S.T. was inspired by Braxton Bilbrey's determination in his goal to raise awareness for childhood drowning prevention. As an amateur triathlete, Joe set the 19 and under record at the 1998 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon. Named the 2005 USA Triathlon Professional Rookie of the Year, he set a new course record. In 2003, Joe won the Overall Amateur Ironman title in Langkawi, Malaysia. He is a two-time 19 and under National Champion, a seven-time Midwest College Conference Swimming Champion, a three-time Lake Forest College school record holder as well as a six-time Triathalon All-American who represented Team USA at six World Championships. Joe has competed in eleven countries and twenty-seven states and continues to race professionally around the world. Joe's mission is to shine a national spotlight on the value of sports in every child s life. He is a sought-after speaker and program facilitator by middle schools, high schools, and parents' organizations across the country for his life skills and success skills seminars. His first book, Joe s Rules: How Every Parent Can Help a Child Excel in Life Through Sports, promises to be the first of a Joe's Rules series dedicated to young people the world over and those who love and support them as they grow to become the leaders and champions of tomorrow.
