Die fr�hen Schriften bis etwa 1800, von denen vor allem seine historische Wirkung ausgegangen ist, stehen im Vordergrund. Die Fichtesche Philosophie wird dabei dargestellt vor dem Hintergrund der Diskussionen, die seit etwa 1785 um Sinn und Berechtigung des Kantischen revolution�ren Neuansatzes gef�hrt worden sind. Es wird gezeigt, wie Fichte unter dem Druck von Argumenten, die gegen Kant vorgebracht worden waren, zu seiner eigent�mlichen Konzeption von Transzendentalphilosophie gef�hrt worden ist und wie er diese dann konsequent fortentwickelt hat: Das 'Postulat der Freiheit' erzwingt einen 'Idealismus aus einem St�ck', eine Transzendentalphilosophie ohne dualistische Pr�missen. Auch die Rechts- und Moralphilosophie, die Fichte auf der Basis dieses 'Idealismus der Freiheit' ausbildet, kommen ausf�hrlich zu Wort. In welcher Weise Fichtes Philosophie in ein solches lebendiges Gespr�ch hineingeh�rt, zeigt sich ebenfalls bei den Auseinandersetzungen, die seit 1798 um seine Philosophie entstehen; in der Kritik an Fichte bilden Schelling und Hegel damals den absoluten Idealismus aus. Die durch diese Auseinandersetzungen ausgel�ste Umwandlung der eigenen Konzeption, die Fichte nach 1800 vornimmt, wird in den beiden letzten Abschnitten dargestellt.
