Johann Gutenberg Master of Mod

Before Johann Gutenberg invented letterpress printing, there were few books—and much of the world was unable to read. Because everything had to be written by hand, books were used primarily by religious men and scholars. With Gutenberg’s letterpress printing process, however, large-scale production of books and printed matter became possible. With this production boom came an explosion in learning and literacy that spread throughout the modern world.
