Item description from seller

See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original publication and not a modern reprint. blindstamped cloth boards with gilt on front and spine. All exterior page edges are also gilt. The exterior cloth is spotted, particularly on the front edges. The spine is faded and there are several small holes to the cloth at the spine edges and tips. The rear board also has what may be a spot of paint in the upper left corner edge. The interior binding is overall good, no hinge cracks at boards and most of the text pages are tight. There is a bit of an edge issue starting at page 203, where the extreme edged is toned and has some small holes along the long edge. Foxing is present throughout, particularly on the end pages and pastedowns, but spotting and page toning is scattered throughout. The front pastedown contains a presentation bookplate from the Institute De Notre Dame, awarding the book to Miss Mary McSherry on July 7, 1870. No other handwriting found in the book.
