Joseph Addison Alexander (Bitesize Biographies)

Joseph Addison Alexander of Princeton was born in 1809, just
three years before his father, Archibald Alexander, was
appointed the first Professor of the newly-founded Princeton
Theological Seminary. By 1830 Jospeh Alexander himself was
Adjunct Professor of Ancient Languages and Literature in the
College of New Jersey (now Princeton University). Four years
later he was at the Seminary as assistant to Charles Hodge. By
the time of his early death in 1859 he had served various posts in
the Princeton Seminary and had seen his great commentaries
published. Allan Harman brings this almost forgotten character
back to life with a stirring biography that is a great addition to
this series.

Allan Macdonald Harman is an Australian
Presbyterian theologian and Old Testament
scholar. He has been described as a "wellknown
and highly regarded figure in Christian
and especially evangelical circles within
Australia and overseas.
Harman was Professor of Old Testament at
Free Church College, Edinburgh, from 1966 to
1974, at Reformed Theological College,
Geelong, from 1974 to 1977 and at
Presbyterian Theological College, Melbourne,
from 1978 until his retirement in 2001. He also
served as Principal of PTC from 1982 to 2001,
and is currently Research Professor at that
institution. He has also lectured at Tyndale
University College and Seminary in Toronto,
Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson,
Mississippi and Kosin University in Busan,
South Korea.
