Il est consid�r� comme l'inventeur du b�ton arm� pour lequel il a d�pos� plusieurs brevets: notamment, en 1867, un brevet sur des caisses en ciment arm� de fer pour l'horticulture. Jardinier de profession, il a invent� le b�ton arm� en recherchant un moyen de produire des pots � orangers (pots du parc des ducs d'Uz�s) moins chers et plus r�sistants.
