Josh Whoever

Library Journal Mystery Debut of Month Feb 2013
Library Journal said in a STARRED Review 1/1/13

Josh was an army veteran, but a maneuver-turned-massacre cover-up threw him into a hero's harsh spotlight. After walking away from it all, Josh, who's been pulling scams for a living, takes refuge in the bottle and tries to stay invisible. But his latest con puts him in the sights of a Russian mob family convinced that he is a private detective--and the only one who can find missing reality star Kiev Romanov. As Josh digs at this mystery, he is joined by unemployed newspaper editor Marci, who's hoping to use this scoop to relaunch her writing career, and Kiev's killer brother, Yuri, who believes he is Batman. In pursuit of the heiress, Josh uses his con man skills and tangles with Confederate zealots and a paramilitary group. He knows if he does not save the girl, he can kiss his last drink goodbye--along with his life.

Michael Guillebeau’s first book, Josh Whoever was a finalist for the 2014 Silver Falchion Award for Best First Novel: Literary Suspense, and received a starred review in Library Journal, and was named a Debut Mystery of the Month by Library Journal. His second book, A Study In Detail (Five Star Mysteries, 2015) received the following praise from the Midwest Book Review: “Recommended for romance and mystery readers seeking something different... fresh, original and witty.” Guillebeau has published over twenty short stories, including three in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine. Growing up, Mike was the kid in the corner with a book while the other kids played. He read everything—literary books (J.D. Salenger and Ibsen), history and science, and sci-fi (Ray Bradbury). But no mysteries. No interest in reading puzzles disguised as books. And then he discovered Travis McGee. And then Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen. Mysteries about characters. Mysteries about the beautiful, rowdy prisoners of life struggling to be free. So now he writes nothing but mysteries. His first book, JOSH WHOEVER was compared (by very kind people) to Elmore Leonard. And the Blackbeard and Terry stories which are the core of SHARK’S TOOTH: EMERALD COAST MURDER, are a loose tribute to everyone who grew up dreaming of rusty knights and slip F-18. Michael Guillebeau lives in Madison, Alabama and Panama City Beach, Florida. For more information, see www.michaelguillebeau.com.
