From Library Journal
Tragically, Gibson never made the white Major Leagues, but Paige capped his Negro Leagues career with a belated entry into the big time. Holway, chronicler of black baseball history ( Black Diamonds , LJ 10/1/89), records their deeds, along with views of other great black players. Gibson, Paige, and all too few of their Negro League fellows are in the Hall of Fame. A luminous account that rates purchase where serious sports biographies circulate, and for African-American collections.
