Hartford: Andrus and Judd, 1821. Captain Riley and the crew of the Commerce were shipwrecked and captured by the Arabs. After much suffering they were ransomed for $1852.45. Robbins was one of Rileys crew and, on the heels of Riley's successful narrative - "An Authentic Narrative of the Loss of the American Brig Commerce" - he rushed his version of the adventure into print. Huntress cites the year of publication as 1818. Huntress 194C. Sabin 71738. This later edition attests either to the books popularity, or to Robbins's inflated marketing claims. Bound in an American full calf binding with unusual stamping, replicating a Cambridge style binding, with a faint rolled checkerboard pattern in the central panel. Text and folding map are lightly foxed, but in good condition. Public library bookplate on front pastedown, call number on copyright page, no other markings. 17.5 cm. 275 pp. b/w folding map. Captain Riley and the crew of the Â"CommerceÂ" were shipwrecked and captured by the Arabs. After much suffering they were ransom.
