18mo. pp. 98, [1 leaf] + [8]ads. original roan-backed printed bds. (rubbed & stained, some foxing & browning throughout, as usual, marginal dampstains). An interesting first-hand account of the experiences and engagements of the American troops (mainly Kentucky volunteers) commanded by Brig.-General James Winchester in the North-western campaigns of 1812-13 against Upper Canada. In January of 1813, they were defeated and captured by the British in southeastern Michigan. Appended are the narratives of two soldiers who were spared from the ensuing Indian massacre of the sick and wounded left behind on the River Raisin. Howes D-73. Sabin 18602. TPL 943.
