About this title

Synopsis

This book is a record of the proceedings of a convention called to reduce the number of members in both houses of the Georgia state legislature. The delegates met in Milledgeville, Georgia in 1839. They sought to amend the existing constitution, which had been adopted in 1798. The volume contains speeches, resolutions, and debates. The author provides background information on the political climate of the time and the reasons for the convention, which can be seen as a reflection of the evolving political landscape of the United States in the early 19th century.
