8vo. 2 Volumes. Leather bound. Fully bound in contemporary brown calfskin leather. Red morocco leather gilted title stamp on spine. Black stamp indicating volume below. Gilt decorative flourishes across entire spine. Tight binding and solid boards. Minimal cracking to spine. Slight fraying to spine ends. Minor bumping to corners. Library stickers for one, "Franklin Dexter" inside front boards. Moderate wear to edges of endpapers. Large, hand color fold out map adjacent to title page, entitled, "A Map of General Dumouriers Campaign on the Meuse." Pages are clean and unmarked. Text is clear and crisp. A lovely 2 volume set in very good condition.John Moore (1729 - 21 January 1802) was a Scottish physician and writer. After taking his medical degree at Glasgow, he served with the army in Flanders during the Seven Years' War, then proceeded to London to continue his studies, and eventually to Paris, where he was attached to the household of the British ambassador. In 1792 he accompanied Lord Lauderdale to Paris, and witnessed some of the principal scenes of the Revolution. His Journal during a Residence in France (1793) is the careful record of an eye-witness, and is frequently referred to by Carlyle. He died in London on 21 January 1802.
