The Journal of Medical Research, Vol. 33: September, 1915, to January, 1916 (Classic Reprint)

This book delves into the relationship between diabetes and the pancreas, specifically focusing on studies of experimental diabetes in dogs. The author, a respected medical professional, meticulously observed physical changes in the pancreas of these animals, leading to the discovery of progressive alterations in the islands of Langerhans. These alterations correspond to the development of diabetes, with early changes suggesting functional activity followed by exhaustion and degeneration. The author's observations provide strong evidence that the islands of Langerhans play a crucial role in the utilization of dextrose and that their degeneration leads to the onset of experimental diabetes. The book offers a significant contribution to our understanding of the pathophysiology of diabetes and has important implications for the study of human diabetes.
