Journal Des Règnes De Louis XIV Et Louis XV, De L'année 1701 À L'année 1744: Recueilli Et Édité Avec Introd. Et Notes — Pierre Narbonne This hybrid diary and political-legal chronicle surveys Versailles and Paris in the 1730s–1740s, with extensive excursions to Dijon, Saint-Pierre-le-Moutier, and the Paris Parlement. It centers on sovereignty and law, detailing a dispute over a 'Tournelle' (a rotating chamber) and its officers, and presenting two avenues for cassation that challenge royal prerogative. The work also weaves court politics under Louis XV—interactions among the King, Cardinal Fleury, ministers, and the Paris Parlement—alongside social and economic stress, bread shortages, price controls, and emergency measures for the poor. Public religion and ritual appear as tools of social governance, with priests and archbishops participating in moral regulation. International diplomacy and war are recounted from the death of Emperor Charles VI to French maneuvering at Frankfurt and the French embassy’s reception at German courts, set against lavish court life. The narrative blends diary-like reportage with archival-memoir commentary and offers a historical source on state power, economy, and diplomacy in early modern France.
