The notes from the diary of Pierre Loti, which would become the first draft for a novel describing Loti's romantic liaison with an exotic Tahitian girl named Rarahu during 1872. Loti (Julien Viaud) (1850 - 1923) was a French naval officer and novelist, who was stationed in Papeete and there transformed himself, adopting native customs and living among the local people, while still retaining his military duties, and keeping this diary. "Tirage.d'après l'édition du Bulletin n. 50 de la Société des études océaniennes de Papeete."
