Solid hardcover book with no specified printing - beige cloth boards with brown title box, black lettering on spine. Light soiling to boards, some library markings or evidence of removed library markings on endpapers. All text block edges unmarked. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Black, white and red frontispiece illustration. All text pages clean and bright, illustrated with black and white photographs. 301 pages. Early in the summer of 1937, authors were commissioned by Faber and Faber of London and by Random House of New York to write a travel book about the East. The choice of itinerary was left to their discretion. The outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in August decided them to go to China. This is the story of their experience. Seller Inventory # 035110
