The Judas Tree and The Last Stand (Luke Starbuck Novels)

The Judas Tree

Virginia City, Montana is a ramshackle town where fifty-six men have been killed, dozens of stagecoaches have been robbed, and a fanatical vigilante leader is threatening to blow the town sky-high. Enter Luke Starbuck: He's been hired to put an end to the epidemic. Instead, the West's most legendary detective finds himself in the dead-center of a murder mystery involving a beautiful young woman, a tough sheriff who takes no prisoners, and a killer who's still on the loose….

The Last Stand

It is the land of Five Civilized Tribes, stolen from its people by a Federal government determined to make Oklahoma the 46th state. Chitto Starr, a full-blood Cherokee, will not go gently into the night. Now it's up to Deputy U.S. Marshal Owen McLain to hunt down Starr and his rebels, and bring justice to this tragic, history-scarred land…or die trying.

MATT BRAUN is a fourth-generation Westerner, steeped in the tradition and lore of the frontier era. His books reflect a heritage rich with the truths of that bygone time. Raised among the Cherokee and Osage tribes, Braun learned their traditions and culture, and their philosophy became the foundation of his own beliefs. Like his ancestors, he has spent most of his life wandering the mountains and plains of the West. His heritage and his contribution to Western literature resulted in his appointment by the Governor of Oklahoma as a Territorial Marshal.

Braun is the author of more than four dozen novels and four nonfiction works, including Black Fox, which was made into a CBS miniseries. Western Writers of America awarded Braun the prestigious Spur Award for his novels Dakota and The Kincaids and the 2004 Wister Award for Lifetime Achievement in Western Literature.
