Item description from seller

A smart second edition of this scarce school novel from Dean Frederic William Farrar. Second edition. Scarce. A moral story of a young boy names Julian as he leaves for boarding school. Considered Farrar's ideal boy, we witness his point of view in life amidst temptations. Written by Dean Frederic William Farrar, a senior-ranking cleric of the Church of England, schoolteacher and author. He was a pallbearer at the funeral of Charles Darwin. Bound by Watkins. In the original half crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with light scattered spotting and age toning to the endpapers. Half title loosening. Contemporary ink inscriptions and ink stamp to the front endpaper and pastedown. Bookplate residue to the rear pastedown. Bound by Watkins. Good.
