JOEL CHANDLER HARRIS collected these Brer Rabbit folktales from Southern blacks and retold them in language he hoped would give the tales a genuine feeling of the Old South, Born in Mississippi, acclaimed composer VAN DYKE PARKS put the stories to music in 1984, and his album Jump! led to the recent HBJ book and a major theatrical production. It was a stroke of luck when Parks came in contact with award-winning artist Barry Moser.
