Marilyn and Tom Ross have collaborated on seven previous books. Although they've been active in the publishing industry since 1978, Tom is a recovering computer engineer and Marilyn previously headed her own advertising/PR agency. Acknowledged as business leaders, the Rosses are Senior Fellows of the prestigious Center for the New West, a Colorado-based think tank. Their areas of specialization are rural entrepreneurship and home-based businesses. They are members of the Authors Guild and the American Society of Journalists and Authors.

In 1996 they launched SPAN, a nonprofit trade association for authors and publishers. The Small Publishers Association of North America has become the second largest such organization in the world.
