Add to basketA later American reprint of political essays first written in the 18th century in the form of letters, with suppleentary materia, "including letters by the same writer under other signatures (now first collected) to which are added, his confidential correspondence with Mr. Wilkes, and his private letters addressed to Mr. H. S. Woodfall : with a preliminary essay, notes, facsimiles, &c." The identity of "Junius," a liberal political writer, has not been firmly established, but whoever he was, he wrote for Henry Sampson Woodfalls popular English newspaper "Public Advertiser," between 1769, and 1772. He was a devoted Whig, and a supporter of William Pitt. Ultimately he attacked King George himself. His writings met with great favor in Revolutionary America. This set is rebound in modern cloth. Facsimiles of his handwriting, originally frontispieces, have been into the text in the process of rebinding. Scattered foxing, very good condition.
