Jupiter's Legacy Library

Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s comic-book masterpiece, a vast epic covering three generations of superheroes from the early 20th Century to the far future.

In 1929, six friends were called to a mysterious island and returned home with super-powers. The story that unfolded is like none before, a huge mythological tale that explores everything from superheroes enforcing their real-world politics on humanity to the secret, alien origins of the human race itself. Jupiter’s Legacy covers three generations of heroes in a vast trilogy that has been described as The Lord of the Rings for superheroes. Featuring stunning art and designs from co-creator Frank Quitely and interior art by Wilfredo Torres.

A sales smash when originally released, this series was also adapted into a huge $100 million adaptation for Netflix. Every once in a while, there’s a defining superhero project from Dark Knight to Watchmen to The Ultimates and The Authority and Jupiter’s Legacy belongs in this milieu. Millar has described it as the best work of his entire career and this first volume is a Hollywood Babylon for the superheroes of the Golden Age.

For mature audiences.

Mark Millar is a NEW YORK TIMES best-selling author, Hollywood producer, and now president of his own division at Netflix after selling his publishing company to the world’s biggest streamer in 2017. He also signed on to exclusively create new comics, TV series, and movies in-house as a senior executive.

Adaptations of JUPITER’S LEGACY, SUPERCROOKS (in the form of a Japanese anime), and AMERICAN JESUS (adapted as THE CHOSEN ONE) have already been released. THE MAGIC ORDER, REBORN, SHARKEY THE BOUNTY HUNTER, PRODIGY, KING OF SPIES, EMPRESS, MPH, HUCK, and a live-action SUPERCROOKS are being put together now.

Previously, Mark worked at Marvel Comics, where he created THE ULTIMATES, which was selected by TIME magazine as the comic book of the decade and described by screenwriter Zak Penn as his major inspiration for the movie THE AVENGERS. Millar also created WOLVERINE: OLD MAN LOGAN and Marvel’s CIVIL WAR. CIVIL WAR was the basis of the third Captain America movie, and OLD MAN LOGAN was the inspiration for 20th Century Fox’s LOGAN.

CIVIL WAR remains Marvel’s biggest-selling graphic novel of all time, and his seminal SUPERMAN: RED SON is the highest-selling Superman graphic novel in history. In 2020, RED SON was also released as an animated feature.

Mark has been an executive producer on all adaptations of his books and worked as a creative consultant to 20th Century Fox on their Marvel slate of movies.
