Justinguitar.com Note Reading For Guitarists (Paperback)

Justin Guitar - Note Reading for Guitarists by Justin Sandercoe and Dario Cortese is a progressive guitar sight reading method designed for players who want to confidently read standard notation in the open position. Created for beginner to intermediate guitarists, it is especially valuable for self-taught players who may have focused on chords or TAB and now want to strengthen their overall musicianship through written music.

The book begins with the fundamentals of written notation and introduces notes on each string one at a time, covering all notes within the first five frets. Students develop rhythmic reading up to eighth-note subdivisions while gaining a clear understanding of sharps, flats, key signatures, accidentals, repeats, and other essential music theory concepts. Each stage includes practical exercises, helpful tips, and short pieces that allow learners to immediately apply their reading skills in a musical context.

Through structured progression and steady reinforcement, this method helps guitarists build confidence, accuracy, and rhythmic control. It supports private study, classroom instruction, and one-to-one lessons, offering a clear pathway from basic note recognition to fluent open-position reading. The integrated repertoire ensures that technical development and musical expression grow together while reinforcing timing, note accuracy, and fretboard awareness.

As reading fluency improves, players gain greater independence from tablature and chord charts, expanding their ability to approach new material with confidence. This makes the method a strong foundation for continued musical growth across styles and settings.
