A group of four older newspaper sheets devoted to Kyoto. A lot of Illustrated London News: 1855, 1872,1873, & Harpers Weekly 1877, single sheets with woodcut illustrations. The Harper's Weekly of 1877 shows "Our Artist at Kioto, Jap- an, drawn by Felix Regamy [our artist is likely Charles Wir- gman] showing both Regamy & Wirgman with a bewildered Japan- ese crowd looking on as Wirgman draws the crowd. Illustrated London News: 1853: Shows Temple of Nishihongwanzi, at Maiko Japan, and a Japanese Dwelling House. 1872: EXHIBITION OF ARTS & MANUFACTURES AT KIYOTO, JAPAN. Shows an exhibition hall, with a large number of Japanese looking on. Includes art wares, ceramics, lacquer, armor &c. 1873: A JAPANESE BALLET AT THE THEATRE OF KYOTO. Shows a Japanese stage show, with audience, candles & lanters light the stage. A good ex- ample of Kyoto sights & culture. Seller Inventory # 98100301
